The new Abt AS4-R with Bi-Turbo was unveiled at the IAA 2005 and is a race car with road licence which have an explosive power and driving performance. With new standards and after the expertise and experience the Abt engineers has gathered engine parts and developed the new AS4-R.V6 Bi-Turbo with 480 HP (the abbreviation R stands for Racing). With a developed and optimized engine together with a double twin-pipe rear muffler, the power of the V6 Bi-Turbo was boosted to breath-taking 480 HP.
With a maximum torque of 565 Nm the AS4-R accelerates from 0-100km/h in just 4.6 seconds and keeps the driver firmly in his seat. The top speed of 300 km/h of the Bi-Turbo requires the driver’s full attention. The AS4-R simply is a race car with road licence and the top model in the Abt AS4 line.
The power of the AS4-R is transferred on to the asphalt by means of Audi’s all-wheel-drive system quattro. Several modifications on the suspension were made for optimal driving dynamics. DTM-driver Christian Abt developed the sport suspension kit in co-operation with Abt Sportsline’s specialists. Thus, the set-up of the suspension which is adjustable in height, pressure and rebound, was tailor-made for the demands of the AS4-R. The estate car is dominant on roads and gives immediate and exact response to steering commands. Stabilizers have been fitted in addition to the suspension kit. They ensure higher torsional rigidity of the body and reduce the vehicle’s side tilt.
The outside appearance of the AS4-R leaves no doubts, either, that this is an exclusive race car with road licence. The designers at Abt Sportsline have developed aerodynamic parts which are not only shapely. Thus, the marked front spoiler ensures increased downforce. Side skirts make the sporty estate car appear broader and more dominant and the rear spoiler increases downforce on the rear axis. The double twin-pipe rear muffler with a diameter of 70 millimetres was perfectly integrated in the newly designed rear spoiler inset. The AS4-R is a concept where all components co-operate harmoniously.
This also counts for the combination of wheel & tyre. The AS4-R is equipped with the new Abt light alloy wheels AR which are being introduced at the IAA 2005. The diamond-machined wheels in the exclusive five-spoke design in the dimension 8.5x19 inch and sport tyres SP Sportmaxx of technology partner Dunlop in the size 235/35, ensure optimal power transmission on to the road and guarantee an extremely high grip level.
The interior of the AS4-R also communicates the motor sport feeling. When opening the door, stainless-steel entrance strips catch your eye. The aluminium pedals remind you of motor sport and guarantee good grip. The instrument panel, identification plate and aluminium gear shift knob are signed with the Abt logo.
The new Abt AS4-R with its powerful 480 HP Bi-Turbo engine is a pure race car for the road. The Bavarians have exceeded all expectations with this vehicle concept and have given proof that standards can only be set on the basis of continuous hard work.
