The 2008 BMW 5-Series model integrates Valvetronic six-cylinder engines, larger V8 engine, all-wheel-drive Sedans and Sports Wagon added in 2006. The 2008 were substantially updated with mild facelift, revised interior and major powertrain changes for 6-cylinder models. Thus, the 528i sedan features a 3.0-liter N52 inline six-cylinder engine, delivering 230 HP, the 528xi sedan has the same engine, but an xDrive all-wheel drive, the 535i sedan incorporates the N54 3.0-liter twin-turbo inline six-cylinder engine, producing 300 HP and the 535xi sedan has the same engine as 535i, but with xDrive all-wheel drive. All 6-cylinder Sedans and Sports Wagon receive significant power increases, comparable to 3 Series cars, such as Lane Departure Warning system, Active Cruise Control, a freshened interior, more convenient window switches, relocated console ashtray, electronic shifter. The 5 Series sedans boast a number of performance highlights, amon which the most important are the reconfigured optical headlight lenses, relocated amber DOT lenses as well as a reshaped rear bumper, with revised diffuser below the bumper 535xi Sports Wagon. Technically updated STEPTRONIC includes faster shifting and more efficient operation for improved efficiency and quicker acceleration. New optional Sport Automatic includes steering-wheel paddle shifters and rpm matching during downshifts (beginning 06/07 production), plus a Sport button for quicker, more dynamic shifting.
