US-Spec 2009 Mazda6

It seems that Mazda North American Operations will launch the all-new Mazda6 sports sedan later this year. Sales will begin in the late summer of 2008. This is the first model to bring a combination of sports sedan, sophistication, build quality and product insight not currently found in the market. Actually, according to Mazda president and CEO, this new Mazda6is the most important new vehicle the carmaker has launched in a decade. It was designed and engineered specifically for the North American market and will be capable of taking on the very best cars from the US, Europe and Asia. All units built for the North American customers will be manufactured at AutoAlliance International, Michigan, and a joint venture with partner Ford Motor Company. The North American Mazda6 is different from the similarly named car sold in the rest of the world in many ways. For example, it has larger interior and exterior size, more powerful engines and unique styling. Under the hood it hides an all-new Mazda-designed and developed MZR 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine and also a 3.7-liter V6 one as used in the 2008 CX-9. To transfer the output to the wheels, the engineers have offered different choices. To be more precise, we are talking about a 6-speed manual or 5-speed Sport AT automatic with manual-shift mode, for the 2.5-liter unit or a 6-speed Sport AT automatic with manual-shift mode for the other one. To handle the extra power, the carmaker offers four-wheel disc brakes and for safety standard ABS and dynamic stability control. The suspension will be independent. Know that the new 2009 Mazda6 will be available as a 4-door sedan only and in three trim levels with different standard and optional equipment. More information on pricing, output, trim levels and equipment will be available closer to launch.
