Ferrari 458 Challenge at Bologna Motor Show

The 35th edition of the Bologna Motor Show enjoys the presentation of the 2010 Ferrari 458 Challenge, a mid-rear V8 berlinetta derived from the 458 Italia and represents the 5th model used by Ferrari in its single-series racing programme. The new 458 Challenge provides a beautiful combination between fun, performance and unique driving emotions. The direct injection 4499 cc V8 raises an output of 570 hp at 9,000 rpm and modifications concerned the gear ratios and higher torque at lower revs provided by calibration of its dual-clutch F1 gearbox.
The car's weight was reduced as the Ferrari's engineers reduced the thickness of the bodyshell panels and used only lightweight materials, such as carbon-fibre and Lexan. Specific features of the car incorporate a suspension set-up with steel uniball joints, stiffer springs, centre-nut 19" forged rims and it is also available equipped with Brembo CCM2 brakes with the latest ABS system.
A first for the Ferrari Challenge is the adding of the F1-Trac traction control system, a most sophisticated of its kind, constantly monitoring levels of grip for maximum high-performance road-holding and offering maximum stability and acceleration both into and out of corners.
These settings are selected via the manettino on the steering wheel and the driver enjoys the choice of three configurations: OFF position, position 1 and position 2. The engineers managed to improve the car's lap time at Fiorano by two seconds over that of its predecessor.
