VW New Compact Coupe Concept

German carmaker Volkswagen will unveil several models this year. The first one on the list is a cat that has as base new concepts and technology it is a coupe with a hybrid drive that is extremely fast and yet futuristic in its fuel economy. Its name is the New Compact Coupe. The model will have its first official public display at the North American International Auto Show that will take place in Detroit in January. Under the hood it hides a TSI engine capable of developing 150 PS and 220 Nm of torque. This amount op power enables the car to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 8.1 seconds and to reach a top speed of 227 km/h. All this output is then being sent to the wheels through a 7-speed Direct Shift Gearbox, which is believed to be the best automatic in the world today. An electric motor is integrated between the TSI and the efficient 7-speed automatic. It can be used for pure electric emissions-free driving, or it can support the TSI with aggressive torque. The electric motor develops 27 PS. A lithium-ion battery at the rear of the vehicle supplies the electric motor with energy. In electric mode, the TSI is not only shut off. It is also disengaged by a clutch to avoid drag losses. In braking, the electric motor that is operating like a generator, recovers kinetic energy which is then stored in the lithium-ion battery. The new Compact Coupe also has a Stop-Start system on board just like the new BlueMotion models from Volkswagen. This actually helps reduce the fuel consumption, especially in urban areas and in stop-and-go traffic. The model has sports appeal and sharp styling yet is remarkably elegant positioned between the best selling sports car in Europe, the Scirocco and the internationally successful CC.
