The new BMW 5 Series Saloon will go on sale in March and the Touring model will reach the UK market in September 2010. The 5-series Touring offers a choice of 2 petrol cars, the 523i and 535i, and 2 diesel models, the 520d and 530d. All four feature innovative technology that ensures class-leading performance, fuel economy and CO2 emissions and in the same time it will provide an elegant, comfortable and driver-oriented estate car. the 5 Series Touring has been designed to reflect its almost perfect 50:50 weight distribution with beautifully balanced proportions, short overhangs, a flowing roofline and a long, contoured bonnet. All models also feature self-level air suspension at the rear to ensure that the Touring is unaffected when carrying heavy loads. For the comfort of the drive and passengers, Dakota leather upholstery is available as standard. On the outside it features roof rails finished in matt aluminum. Park Distance Control for both front and rear, and Bluetooth telephone preparation are also now standard for all models while a USB audio interface and ambient lighting are standard for 6-cylinder cars. The new Touring has the longest wheelbase in its class, creating a greater feeling of interior space. On the inside, the cabin has many sporting, but in the same time luxurious quality and comfort features borrowed from the BMW 7 Series. The 520d Touring has an engine capable of developing 184 horsepower and 380 Nm of torque. This output enables the car to accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in 8.3 seconds and to reach a top speed of 138 mph. The 530d, on the other hand, features an engine capable of developing 245 horsepower and 540 Nm of torque enabling the car to accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in 6.4 seconds and to reach a top speed of 155 mph. In the UK, the BMW 5 Series Touring will be offered with four optional equipment packages.
