McLaren GT is a new company that successfully brings together the expertise of the CRS Racing and the McLaren Group and built the first McLaren MP4-12C GT3, which undertook its debut tests at the MIRA proving ground facility and Silverstone Circuit in England. The 26-year-old Portuguese racing driver Ivaro Parente, who is going to be the first new professional racing driver to join the McLaren GT race team, has also been appointed by McLaren GT for tests. The 12C GT3, which is based on a standard 12C, went through the initial tests, showing new calibrated components as well as bespoke aerodynamic body structures. The new 12C GT was piloted on its first outings by McLaren GT Project Manager Andrew Kirkaldy and McLaren Automotive Chief Test Driver Chris Goodwin. Andrew Kirkaldy stated that they made up an extensive list which included subjective and objective development targets set for the MP4-12C GT3. Handling, powertrain, together with other aspects of dynamic performance were areas in which the car achieved magnificent results in the first tests. Furthermore, the aerodynamic efficiency and the 12C's carbon chassis, being characteristics fundamental to any race car, prove the fact that the McLaren team started with a lightweight, dynamically-optimised sports car. Race specification composite body panels and a fixed rear wing have been added to the GT3 car. Several of the senior technical personnel involved in the project boast a vast experience in Formula 1, while the McLaren GT team is currently working with Formula 1 technology suppliers.
The new GT3 car is going to incorporate suspension components and motor-specific braking, as well as many other features which include bespoke callipers by Akebono and Official Supplier to Vodafone McLaren Mercedes.
Chris Goodwin, the McLaren Automotive Chief Test Driver, announced that an immense attention was given to detail when developing the GT3 version.
Guaranteeing the levels of quality, reliability and durability, the McLaren GT team is decided to achieve unprecedented levels of performance.
