The 2011 Volvo S60 made its world debut at the Geneva Motor Show, which took place on the 2nd of March, thus entering one of the automotive world`s toughest segments. It was sculpted to move you, on both a physical and emotional level, as it boasts to be one of the most dynamic car models released by Volvo, comprising a groundbreaking safety feature, the Pedestrian Detection with full auto brake. It is able to detect pedestrians who walk into the road in front of the car, warn the driver, then automatically applies full braking power if the driver somehow does not respond in time. Volvo Cars President and CEO, Stephen Odell, stated at the event that the sporty design of the car produced a visual promise of enthusiastic driving characteristics, assuring better properties than those of any previous Volvo. The driver is safer and better due to the car's innovative technologies which advance its position into the CD Premium segment. The engineers placed a special emphasis on the visual stance, sporty design and dynamic driving properties, being convinced that the all-new S60 would be one of the strongest contenders. Its profile shows a coupe feeling with the rear doors coming as a true surprise when examining the car more closely. The dynamic appearance is enhanced by the C-pillar which stretches all the way to the tail lamps as well as the coupe-like roof line. The car looks sleeker and lower through the dip in the middle of the double wave which visually pushes the car down. A choice of two chassis is available for the sedan with the newly developed chassis being standard for the European market, while the majority of markets in North America and Asia will have the comfort chassis as standard with the sport variant available as an option. Providing a more comfortable feel together with a better control, the FOUR-C active chassis has been modified and refined. When developing the 2011 Volvo S60, the concept of comfort was taken to a whole new dimension, concentrating on the steering, stiffer springs and bushes as well as more damping. The advanced Stability Control is available for the first time on a sedan model, significantly improving handling and rapid avoidance manoeuvres. Furthermore, the car takes the curves more smoothly thanks to the Corner Traction Control, which makes use of the torque vectoring. The functionality, clarity and simplicity of the interior provide comfortable space for all its occupants. Power is delivered by the new four-cylinder 2.0 GTDi, which raises an impressive output of 203 HP and 300 Nm of torque available from 1,750 rpm, covering the 0-100 km/h sprint in only 7.7 seconds with the manual gearbox and 8.2 seconds with the automatic. Its maximum speed is of 235 km/h (manual) and 230 km/h (automatic). The first Volvo S60 will be delivered to customers in early summer 2010, after having been built at the Volvo Cars factory in Ghent, Belgium.
