German carmaker Audi developed the B8 generation of the A4. Unfortunately, the US customers never received the Audi RS4. Actually, the only one they will get is the A4 Allroad, but it just feels like a consolation prize. Under the hood the model hides a 4.2-liter naturally aspirated V8 engine capable of developing 450 horsepower and 317 lb. ft. torque. All the output is being sent to the wheels through a 7-speed S-tronic transmission which performs at its very best with the naturally aspirated ingredient and accompanying high revs. The model tested was equipped with everything it might have needed like optional variable ratio dynamic steering, sport suspension Plus with hydraulic dynamic ride control, added carbon ceramic brake discs with six-piston calipers and rear sport differential. The model had a lot of track width to use and so the results were all in its favor.
The starting price of the new Audi RS4 Avant was established at $80.000. The price is one of the reasons a lot of possible customers choose not to buy it, but there are a lot that do. The output enables the car to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 4.4 seconds with the Audi Drive Select interface set to Dynamic all around. The carmaker offers as standard 19-inch Continental ContiSportContact tires measuring 265 / 35 ZR19 98Y, but the specialists also offer as an option, the 20-inch setup.
Audi also provide the Boysen-engineered optional sport exhaust. Unfortunately for the North American buyers, the model will not arrive on their market even though the engine on the new chassis improves fuel efficiency and emissions by 26 % over the B7 generation. Here customers have to get used to the idea and enjoy the Audi RS5 with all its body variants the carmaker has to offer.
