580HP Chevrolet Camaro ZL1

The 2012 580HP Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 is the most-powerful production Camaro ever, providing an outstanding power complemented by chassis technologies, including balanced handling for the track, acceleration for a drag strip, and the comfort of a daily driver, together with advanced powertrain. Its supercharged 6.2-liter engine is SAE-rated at 580 HP and 754 Nm of peak torque. Al Oppenheiser, Camaro chief engineer, commented that the Camaro ZL1 delivered supercar performance and technology in the sports-car segment, adding that the ZL1 produced more horsepower than a Ferrari 458, more torque than an Aston Martin DB9 V12 as well as a better power-to-weight ratio than a Porsche 911 Carrera GTS. Oppenheiser further stated that traditional suspension systems compromised ride quality for road-holding grip and body control, but their Magnetic Ride Control offered customers a comfortable ride that made the ZL1 appropriate as a daily driver and the incredibly precise body control that made the ZL1 so enjoyable on the track. According to John Rydzewski, assistant chief engineer for small block engines, the ZL1 is a car one would not want to get out of as it will be available with an optional automatic transmission, thus appealing to a larger group of sports car enthusiasts. The all-aluminum LSA supercharged V-8 is part of GM's legendary small-block engine family and features a unique induction system and an improved airflow through the supercharger housing. The Hydra-Matic 6L90 was strengthened to better handle the torque and horsepower produced by the 6.2-liter small block, featuring three distinct drive modes: the Drive engages the tap-shift feature on the steering wheel or shift lever engages temporary manual mode, the Sport provides more aggressing driving, including first-gear starts for maximum performance and the Manual which offers the driver true manual control. A high-performance fuel system delivers fuel to the LSA engine under any performance driving condition, featuring additional fuel pickups on the primary side, while the secondary fuel pickup is moved outboard for continuous fuel access during high-g cornering under low fuel conditions. Even novice drivers will enjoy driving the ZL1, while expert drivers will find PTM supplements their driving skill without interfering with their intentions.
