The 2012 Chevrolet Colorado had its world premiere in Thailand after having been engineered and designed by General Motors as the highest-performing and refined midsize pickup truck ever. A $2 billion vehicle program which has lasted for five years and reaching customers from more than 60 markest all over the world, resulted in the Colorado range. The new Colorado boasts new technologies and features that make it the most-extensive clean-sheet midsize truck program in Chevrolet's 100-year history. The customers from Thailand are going to receive no more than 26 combinations of Colorado models, cabins, powertrains as well as ride heights. Two all-new Duramax turbo-diesel engines ensure an intelligent blend between fuel economy and performance across three specification levels. GM Thailand President Martin Apfel, commented that Thailand was excited to be the first market in the world to introduce the all-new Colorado as it represented GM's most significant play in the midsize pickup truck market ever, a truck of which Thailand could be really proud. The new Colorado demonstrated the outstanding skills and capability that existed in Thailand and the manufacturing operations successfully met the needs of the local and global marketplace. Its active safety features integrate occupant front air bags, cornering brake control, hydraulic brake assist, traction control, an anti-lock braking system featuring electronic brake force distribution and electronic stability control, thus managing to compete with the world's best truck nameplates. The new Colorado easily works as a family hauler, a lifestyle vehicle or a truck that plays to the higher-end premium buyer. No sacrifices have been made as related to fundamental hardware or aesthetics, from a very basic two-door work truck all the way up to a premium crew cab. A highly skilled team of GM engineers in Brazil led the development of this fascinating car model, by using their expertise in order to make the vehicle appropriate for many global markets, the ones from Southeast Asia being included. An all-new global family of GM-developed turbo-diesel four-cylinder engines is part of the range, including the 2.8-liter turbodiesel which features a variable-geometry turbocharger for optimal power, and a 2.8-liter engine that delivers an incredible output of 180 HP and 470 Nm of peak torque, paired to a six-speed automatic transmission. When combined with a raised cowl, the power dome in the hood provides the Colorado with a strong and purposeful appearance. The detailed sheet metal work throughout the exterior, including the hood and door panels, further reflects the premium appearance of the truck. Convenience features like auxiliary power, auxiliary plugs and USB connectivity are standard across the range.
