We now have the opportunity to see the new Chevy Sonic turned into a B-Spec race car thanks to the help received from Chevrolet Performance specialists. The model previews a competition kit for racers. It behaves great on track as it has perfect balance of power and responsive handling. Its competitors should be careful. The modifications made to the Chevrolet Sonic B-Spec include new safety elements and chassis and suspension enhancements especially designed for racing. Here we can mention front strut coil-over assemblies and mounts, rear shock coil-over assemblies and mounts, inlet air restrictor, rear axle shim kit, adjustable front stabilizer and recalibrated ECM and EBCM. To transfer the output to the road, the engineers have offered lightweight 15x7-inch racing wheels covered in racing tires. In terms of safety, the Detroit-based specialists have offered the roll cage, safety seat, racing harnesses and window net. We can see it with a Monaco Blue-painted roll cage, five-point safety harness, carbon fiber racing seats and center catch net. The list continues with a fire extinguisher and quick-release steering wheel-hub system.
Under the hood it has a 1.8-liter engine just like other vehicles in B-Spec classes. It remains almost unchanged. There is an air restrictor which is employed to equalize its output with other competitors. To send the output to the wheels, the engineers have fitted the new Chevrolet Sonic B-Spec race car concept with a 5-speed manual transmission. The carmaker plans to offer it for sale in the first quarter of next year through Chevrolet Performance retailers.
The Sonic is one of the best sellers of the segment standing somewhere between the Spark and the Cruze. The Sonic RS hits dealerships in late 2012 and includes the exclusive infotainment system MyLink with a 7-inch color touch screen radio capable of displaying videos, photos and contacts for hands-free calling.
