A few days ago, during a press conference at the Paris Motor Show, Honda official, Manabu Nishimae announced two new models. To be more precise we are talking about the development and market introduction of two Civic models, the Type R and the Wagon. Apparently, the manufacturing process will take place in Swindon UK. Here the specialists also develop the Civic 5-door hatchback. From here, the model is then being exported all around Europe and then all around the globe. The Honda Civic Type R hot hatchback is planned to go into production only in 2015 and its biggest rival will be the VW Golf GTI.
When it comes to the wagon version know that it will presented for the first time as a concept model either in March at the Geneva Motor Show or in September at the Frankfurt Motor Show, next year. The carmaker said it will develop and design the Wagon version in Europe. Unfortunately, the specialists have decided to produce the next generation of the Jazz, which is scheduled for 2013, somewhere outside Europe. Now, the model is being developed in Japan at the Suzuka Factory, for the European market, in China at the Honda Automobile Company and in the UK at the Swindon manufacturing facility. They took this decision after considering the production costs and the global production resources Honda has to offer.
According to Honda, the UK plant will have to produce the same number of cars as before until March of next year, so 182.000. The carmaker invested GBP267 million into HUM to support the production of the new CR-V and Civic for the European market. This money will also help the development of a new engine that can be found under the hood of these two. To be more precise, we are talking about a 1.6-liter turbo diesel unit.
