2012 McLaren 12C Spider review and pictures

McLaren 12C Spider

British carmaker McLaren developed a Spider version of the MP4-12C sports car and now presented a few details and pictures. The model is equipped with a Unique Retractable Hard Top that works at 19 mph. Actually the carbon MonoCell body structure is the same one used on the 12C coupe version. Under the hood it hides a 3.8-liter twin-turbo V8 engine capable of developing 616 horsepower. All the output is being transferred to the wheels through a 7-speed SSG dual-clutch transmission. The ones interested can start ordering now through 38 McLaren retailers everywhere in the world.

The starting price is GBP195.500 for the UK market. The first customers will receive their cars for this fall, the beginning of November. In terms of performance the difference between the new 12C Spider and the MP4-12C are very clear. Even if the acceleration time from 0 to 62 mph in the same, 3.1 seconds, from 0 to 100 mph the Spider version needs 6.1 seconds and the 12C needs 6.0 seconds. From 0 to 124 mph, the McLaren 12C Spider needs 9.0 seconds and the MP4-12C needs only 8.8 seconds. The quarter of a mile is finished in 10.8 seconds by the Spider version and in 10.6 seconds by the MP4-12C.

The new one can reach a top speed of 204 mph and the 12C, 207 mph. In terms of fuel efficiency, the Spider can deliver 24.2 mpg and the 12C, the same. The CO2 emission level indicates 279 g/km for both versions. The power-plant of the 12C Spider is available to see through a glass screen positioned behind the tonneau cover. The model delivers comfort in all driving conditions, but still it delivers race car performance and handling on track. It measures 2670 mm wheelbase.
