Japanese carmaker Mitsubishi revealed their new Mirage last year at the 2011 Tokyo Motor Show. The model was available for purchase in Thailand starting this year, but now the carmaker made another announcement. Apparently the new entry in the small car segment will also go on sale in Japan, its home market starting the end of this month. The five-door hatchback has an established price starting with $12.800 and goes up to $16.500 for the Japanese customers. The ones interested started with their orders on June 26th and so far, the carmaker received 5.000, all these until the end of July. The target concerning sales for this fiscal year was established for 30.000 units.
Mitsubishi will offer the new Mirage in three trim levels, but all will be equipped with a 1.0-liter 3-cylinder MIVEC gasoline engine. All the power will be sent to the front wheels through a new version of the CVT transmission developed by the carmaker. The new Mitsubishi Mirage is 3.710 mm long, 1.665 mm wide and 1.490 mm tall. The M and G trim grades also use Eco Drive Assist and AS&G start / stop systems to obtain a 27.2 km/l fuel economy. These figures make the new mirage the most fuel efficient non-hybrid gasoline car in Japan.
It seems that the carmaker decided to introduce the model in Europe, Australia and other regions sometime later this year. The situation is a little uncertain concerning the North American market, but company officials still have to take the final decision. These are all the information revealed so far on the new Mitsubishi Mirage hatchback.
