Peugeot 208 Type R5

Earlier this year, in May, French carmaker Peugeot revealed the 208 R2 rally car. This month, at the Paris Motor Show they will turn their attention towards the Peugeot 208 Type R5. The specialists have developed it to replace the current 207 Super 2000 and you will have to see it in action for the first time in the second half of next year when it will take part in its first rallies.

Under the hood, the new Peugeot 208 Type R5 hides a 1.6-liter 4-cylinder engine capable of developing 280 BHP and 400 Nm of torque. To send the power to all its wheels, the engineers have fitted it with a 5-speed sequential transmission and also with two self-locking differentials. The new model measures 3.962 mm in length, 1.820 mm in width and it has a 2.560 mm wheelbase. One of its objectives is a significant reduction in costs, including operating expenditure.

On the outside Peugeot 208 Type R5 features a new spoiler, increased wheel arches and to send the power to the road, the carmaker offered 18-inch asphalt wheels covered in 225 x 4 x 18 tires and dirt wheels covered in 215 65 r15 tires. In comparison with the Peugeot 207, the new R5 benefitted from a weight reduction of around 40 kg. Its dimensions are a great advantage for the Type R5 with its long wheelbase which provides excellent chassis stability. The carmaker will offer it for sale during the second half of next year and it will participate in the International Rally Challenge, European Rally Championship and National Championships. In terms of suspension both the front and the rear one are Pseudo MacPherson. These are all the information available so far, but the carmaker will reveal more soon, for sure, so stay tuned.
