German carmaker Volkswagen has revealed the VW Polo R WRC Street, a model that was built as a limited edition. We had the opportunity to see the prototype presented last spring, in May at the 31st GTI meeting that took place in Worthersee which previewed this new vehicle. For those of you who do not know yet, this new VW Polo R WRC Street is the fastest Polo ever made. The car managed to remain almost unchanged in comparison with the concept version. The engineers have used as base the 5th generation Polo and equipped the model with the 4-cylinder 2.0-liter turbo gasoline engine that also powers the VW Golf GTI. The total output reaches 217 horsepower and 349 Nm of torque. To transfer the output to the front wheels, the German specialists have offered a short shift 6-speed manual gearbox. This element actually enables the car to accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in 6.4 seconds and to reach a top speed of 151 mph. When it comes to fuel economy, the new VW Polo R WRC Street can return 31.6 mpg and the CO2 emission level reaches 174 g/km.
The model weighs approximately 1.324 kg considering the driver weighs 68 kg and its luggage 7 kg and there is a 90 % full fuel tank as well. To transfer the output to the front wheels, the engineers have fitted 18-inch alloy wheels covered in 215 / 35 R 18 tires and to handle the power, that have provided 16-inch disc brakes. On the inside we will find seat covers with the WRC badge, a black roof liner, racing-style pedals and also a steering wheel covered in Alcantara. The carmaker will only build 2.500 units of the Volkswagen Polo R WRC Street and the starting price was established at EUR33.900. Orders can be placed starting today, but deliveries will start in the fall of 2013.
