The Italians from Carrozzeria Touring Superleggera are proud to present, in this week’s Geneva International Motor Show, their first production model of the Disco Volante. An Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione model lies at the basis of the Disco Volante. This new improved car is created with high craftsmanship and an upper level of quality and innovative design. This is a lethal combination of uniqueness. The Disco Volante is slightly inspired by the 1952 Alfa Romeo C52 Disco Volante which is considered by many specialists to be a pioneer in lightweight construction and aerodynamic design.
Using elements from the previous Alfa Romeo vehicles that wrote history, the car received a new tubular chassis, and a lightweight, striking and efficient aluminum body. The exterior is all built with aluminum and carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP). It has a prominent grille, a great panoramic glass roof and a special rear part that takes us back in time and reminds us of its ancestors.
Although the exterior lines were kept almost the same and the changes will be hardly noticeable, we can’ t say the same thing about the inside of the car. It is characterized by the use of leather and Alcantara upholstery, it possesses a LED ambient lighting and an Alpine infotainment system, which might give you the feeling that you are flying a UFO. Of course, personality can be added to the interior design as part of the offer in order to satisfy customer’s desires.
A 4.7-liter V8 engine is the heart of the Disco Volante. It can pump out 450 HP (331 kW) and 480 Nm (354 lb-ft) of torque. This are transmitted forward with the help of a six-speed sequential transmission with electronic control and paddle-shift gear selection which gives permission for the car to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 4.2 seconds, before reaching a top speed of about 290 km/h (181 mph).
It is still a mystery how much the Disco Volante will cost. However, the vehicle will only be manufactured on demand and producing one model means half of year’s work. This car is a testimony of world class quality standards provided by Carrozzeria Touring Superleggera.
