German carmaker Audi is getting ready for the 24 Hours of Le Mans. How exactly? The specialists have decided to offer a ne long tail version of the Audi R18 e-tron quattro. The model will be tested in Belgium and will try to be ready until the 22nd of June when the competition starts. There will be two variants of the R18 that can be distinguished from each other and that will be running at Spa. The third model has an aero package that has been optimized for the high-speed Le Mans track and can be recognized by its lengthened rear section. Different practical aspects of using the second body version will be reviewed and data generated for the fielding in the race at Le Mans. The main attraction will be the thrilling battle between World Champion Audi and challenger Toyota. In the seven meetings that have taken place since last June, the score is 4-3 for the sports car from Ingolstadt. Just for information, the Spa 6 Hours will be held on Saturday on the first weekend next month.
You will have the chance to view selected stages of the competition on Eurosport. This will be quite interesting as Spa is a race track with a character that is completely different from Silverstone. Fielding the Le Mans aero variant on the third vehicle that has not been optimized for the lap time at Spa is an important element of the preparation for the 24-hour race. All mechanics and all the other team members did a great job at Silverstone and now, the Spa competition is their last preparation in racing conditions before the biggest competition of the year at Le Mans. Races in general are always surprises. On the 3rd of May the program will start with a free practice from 9.00. These are all the details available for now.
