The Audi R8 is a mid-engine, 2-seater sports car, which uses Audi's trademark quattro permanent all-wheel drive system. It is based on the Lamborghini Gallardo platform. Being based on the R8 facelift, the new 2013 ABT Audi R8 GTR will have its official premiere in Geneva Motor Show, in ten days.
Generally, an Audi has enough power to please most of its drivers. But, of course, there are persons who want more. That is why Abs Sportsline announced a tuning kit for the new ABT R8 GTR, limited to 25 units. The heart of the car is a 5.2 FSI V 10 engine whose performance is quite extraordinary. Comparing it to the R8 serial version with 525 hp, the improved car can deliver an impressive 620 hp. The result is 100 km/h in 3.2 seconds, 200 km/h in 9.9 seconds, a speed for champions, and the maximum speed can reach 325 km/h.
One goal of the engineers who worked on this model was to reduce the total weight of the vehicle. Besides the fact that the body parts have a great contribution to the design of the Audi R8 GT R, they are all made of high- quality light carbon fiber. So the body features carbon made bonnet, hatch, front and rear spoilers. The adjustable rear wing, tailgate, external mirrors and door panel are made of carbon fiber, too. And with windows made of Makrolon, the tuner managed to reduce the total weight by 100 kilos.
The CEO of ABT Sportsline, Hans-Jurgen Abt, states that "this car combines all our experiences gained in all the decades we have been involved in premium motorsports". And this is surely noticeable. The sports car gets height-adjustable ABT Sports suspension and adjustable dampers and 19" extremely light ER- F forged alloys wheels, which all wear the Kempten signature. Weight reduction played a huge role in selecting the wheels because in motorsports, it’s necessary that the unsprung masses are as small as possible, and that’s where the ER-F does its job fine.
ABT Audi R8 GTR has a black and red Alcantara interior. Ans whereas being a sports car it needs as many race features as it can.Among these we discover a rollover cage, 4-point safety belts and a sport steering wheel made of Alcantara and carbon that features LED-shift indicator lights. ABT makes the promise that the ABT R8 GTR will be a car suitable for the race track but for street driving, too.
