German carmaker Audi has developed the new Audi S3 from nothing. Under the hood it hides a 4-cylinder engine capable of developing 380 Nm of torque. Thanks to its output, the model is capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.1 seconds if it is mated to the S Tronic transmission and of reaching a top speed of 250 km/h. The fuel consumption is rated at 6.9 liters/100 km and the CO2 emission level reaches 159 g/km for the models equipped with the S Tronic. The ones mated to a manual transmission have a 1.5-liter improvement in comparison with the previous version. The exhaust manifold is integrated into the cylinder head, where it is bathed in coolant. This solution actually lowers the temperature of the exhaust and accelerates warm-up, lowering consumption during the cold-start.
The 2.0-liter TFSI engine was especially developed for the Audi S3. The cylinder head is made of lightweight aluminum-silicon alloy which is very strong and it resists at high temperatures. The new Audi S3 can takes all types of corners at high speed and with little body movement. In terms of handling know that it is precise and safe. Because of the progressive steering the ratio varies. The very strong electric motor decreases its output as speed increases. To transfer the power to the road, the engineers have offered 7.5 J x 18 alloy wheels covered in 225 / 40-series tires. To handle the extra power, the specialists have provided a new set of brakes which feature front discs which are internally vented and measure 340 mm in diameter. The new Audi S3 weighs no more than 1.395 kg so its competitors should watch out. On the inside it features large, round air vents which provide exquisite accents. The luggage compartment has 365 liters, but this capacity can be increased to 1.100 liters by folding down the rear seats.
The specialists can equip the new Audi S3 with mobile infotainment and driver assistance solutions available for the model series. According to the carmaker, the new model will be available for sale starting the first months of next year and the price for the German customers will start at EUR38.900.
