Time has come for us to see the new model developed by the Bavarian manufacturer BMW. To be more precise, we are talking about the new BMW 320i, a model that has been presented for the first time at the Auto Show that takes now place in Detroit. Actually, for the ones of you who do not know yet, the new BMW 320i has been on sale on different markets since the current generation 3 Series was introduced. Now, it will also go on sale in the US and the carmaker has established a starting price of $33.445, which means is $3.405 cheaper than the sedan version.
In other countries, the model comes with either a 1.5-liter or a 2.0-liter inline-four turbocharged engine. The North American version of the model will come with the 2.0-liter inline-four unit capable of generating 180 horsepower and 200 lb. ft. of torque. Just for comparison, know that the current 328i receives power from the same engine and it produces 240 horsepower and 255 lb. ft. of torque. It comes as no surprise the fact that the new BMW 320i is capable of accelerating from 0 to 60 mph in 7.1 seconds and to reach a top speed of 130 mph, just like the 328i.
For the models that come with rear-wheel drive and that send the output to the wheels through an 8-speed automatic transmission the fuel consumption matches the one of the 328i and so we have: 23 mpg in the city and 33 mpg on the highway. The BMW 328i model equipped with a manual transmission has higher fuel consumption. Together with the BMW 320i, the engineers will also provide the choice of xDrive all-wheel drive, BMW Assist and several packages including a Sport pack and Premium pack.
