BMW 328d in the US

The US customers can now be at peace as German carmaker BMW has released the new 320d on their market. There are several things we do no understand though. The name was changed to 328d from the European one even though it receives power from a 2-liters diesel. We had the opportunity to see it for the first time at the New York International Auto Show together with other diesel models developed by Germany for the US market. We will now try to tell you more in terms of the power train of the new BMW 328d. Under the hood it hides a 2.0-liter unit that features two turbochargers and direct injection. This unit is capable of generating 180 horsepower and 290 lb. ft. of torque which has a fuel consumption of 45 mpg on the highway. In case you are one of the ones interested in owing one of these bad boys, you should also know that the carmaker is only offering it with its smooth eight-cog automatic and optional xDrive all-wheel grip. The bad new is that a manual option will not be offered.

Different reports indicate the fact that 25 % of all X5 SUVs bought in the US are actually diesels. Now, the Bavarian carmaker is slowly covering all of the bases with the 3-Series diesel and a 6-cylinder 5-Series diesel. To be more precise, BMW has not had a diesel 3-Series in the range since it stopped sales of the 335d back in 2011. The new BMW 328d is expected to have a starting price of $40.000 and the carmaker announced the fact that it will go on sale before the end of this year. Beside BMW, Audi also has big plans in terms of increasing the number of diesels offered in the US, by them of course. Until now, the specialists have only offered the A3 hatchback, A8 Sedan and the Q7 SUV. We will have more info on their evolution soon.
