Founded in 1963, Automobili Lamborghini, the company headquartered in Sant’Agata Bolognese, in Northeastern Italy, celebrates 50 years of existence. Along these years they have been manufacturing the most wanted and innovative cars in the world. And since the anniversary needs to be greatly celebrated, Lamborghini decided to mark the moment through revealing some special editions of their fastest cars ever built. And they have just revealed the Lamborghini Veneno Roadster.
The Lamborghini Veneno Roadster is just another ultra exclusive model, part of the company’s 50th anniversary package. As the others, the Veneno will come in a special edition, limited to only nine units. The starting price for the model is around 3.3M Euros. It represents an “open racing prototype”. It is powered by the same engine like its brother, the coupe Veneno. A V12 6.5 liter engine is responsible for producing 750 HP (552 kW) which are sent to all four wheels through an ISR transmission with five selectable modes. This configuration enables the high-performance roadster to reach 62 mph (100 km/h) in 2.9 seconds before hitting a maximum speed of 220 mph (355 km/h).
The Lamborghini Veneno Roadster weights 1,490 kg (3,278lbs) and this is translated into power-to-weight ratio of 1.99 kg/bhp (4.38 lbs/bhp). The lower curb weight is the consequence of a lightweight design with a carbon fiber monocoque and CFRP exterior body parts, while the cabin is also mostly made from carbon fiber. Apart from the absence of a roof it boasts the same exentric design as the coupe which some have considered to be a bit too much, even for an exclusive Lamborghini. But since too much is never enough, we can’t wait to see the SUV announced by the Italian car producer. Until then, the nine units of the Veneno Roadster are going to be delivered next year.
