The Porsche 911 is 50 years old this year and the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show represents the final culmination of the celebrations. The 911 was originally launched at this very event, in 1963.
Largely based on the Carrera 4/4S, the 50 Years Edition gets the wider body of the Carrera 4 models plus the Porsche Active Suspension Management system. Inside, the leather seats feature Pepita tartan cloth inserts, the same fabric used on the early 911 models. The aerodynamic package includes a three-stage front spoiler and a modified three-stage rear spoiler to improve downforce.
The rear-wheel drive sports car also gets a sporty looking exhaust and bespoke chrome strips. The adoption of aluminium brings down significantly the weight of the car for a vastly improved power-to-weight ratio. The 20-inch alloy wheels are based on the classic Fuchs design and come in a matt black finish with polished centres. Porsche also brings to the table the Dynamic Chassis Control for this special edition, which uses hydraulically operated anti-roll bars to reduce body roll, pitch and lift.
The sixth generation of the 911 Turbo presented at the Frankfurt motor show, will come in one of two power outputs: Turbo and Turbo S models. Power comes from a 400HP 3.8-litre flat-six engine and the 911 will hit 62mph from a standstill in 4.3 seconds. Top speed will be a rather impressive 185mph. Fuel-wise, the special edition will return 30mpg on the combined cycle, with CO2 emissions of 224 g/km.
The car is adorned with the 911:50 emblem, celebrating the sportscar's half a century anniversary. The special badge can be found on the rear of the car and on the dashboard dials. For this special edition car made in 1963, Porsche will have... well, 1,963 examples; available for sale in two shades: a dark grey ‘Graphite’, and a lighter version, ‘Geyser’. The price for it will be 144,843 USD / £92,257.
