We were all quite intrigued by the thought that soon Skoda will offer us a new and interesting model. So far, we only got a few camouflaged prototypes that were caught during testing sessions and photo shoots. Now, get ready for the model we have been all waiting for, the third generation of the successful Octavia series. Apparently the carmaker will offer it in lift-back form for now and as an estate the next year. The 2013 Skoda Octavia III uses a lighter MQB platform borrowed from the VW Group. It measures 4.695 mm in length, 1.814 mm in width and the wheelbase measures 2.686 mm. These dimensions are great for the interior space and the space on the rear seats. In comparison with other models, this new one sports a more premium feel both inside and out.
In terms of exterior design, the model got an upswept dynamic window line in the rear doors which in fact a new characteristic. For the interior, the model got the latest in infotainment systems and other tech goodies including the availability for the first time of an Adaptive Cruise Assistant, but also traffic-sign recognition and the Intelligent Light Assistant. The list continues with a panoramic sunroof and the Driving Mode Selection. If you are interested in getting one of these models for yourself, know that the carmaker plans of offering them next spring to the European customers.
In terms of engines, eight turbocharged petrol and diesel options will be available. The first one is a 1.4-liter TSI petrol capable of generating 120 horsepower, followed by a 1.8-liter TSI petrol with 177 horsepower as output. Next there is a 1.6-liter TDI with 109 horsepower in GreenLine trim. This engine uses 3.4 liters of fuel for 100 km and the CO2 emission level reaches 89 g/km. To transfer the output to all the wheels, the engineers have offered manual and DSG transmissions.
Next year, Skoda will introduce a performance Octavia RS powered by a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine. More information will be revealed next year in March at the 2013 Geneva motor Show when it will be revealed officially.
