The Czech manufacturer Skoda has just presented its top performance vehicle. As you already may know it is the 2013 Skoda Octavia RS. The RS version is probably one of the best Skoda models that the Mlada Boleslav plant ever produced. It gets a perfect equilibrium between functionality, inner space and of course sportiness features. The 2013 Skoda Octavia RS will be launched at the Goodwood Festival of Speed on 10th July. The manufacturer has a new surprise for its fans, the third generation Octavia RS that debuts next month is the fastest series production Octavia ever.
Regarding body style both Octavia Sedan RS and Octavia Combi RS will be available. Characterized by racing design lines, efficient engines, safety and comfort the new generation RS it is a perfect car for free time and everyday use and offers maximum power, the latest technology and great value for money as Skoda officials explain.
Inheriting its heart from the cousin Golf VII GTI and GTD the Czech model gets a 220 HP (162 kW) 2.0-liter TSI gasoline engine and with a 184 HP (135 kW) 2.0-liter TDI. These mills have proved their sport blood on the Golf generation. The engines can be linked to a six-speed manual gearbox or an optional six-speed DSG. For the moment we just have the performance output for the manual gear. The Skoda Octavia RS runs from a stand start to 62 mph (100 km/h) in just 6.8 seconds while the diesel variant needs 8.1 seconds. The top speed is 154 mph (248 km/h) for the gasoline engine and 144 mph (232 km/h) for the TDI. Compared to the previous generation the 2013 RS has improved fuel efficiency by 19% and gets in the same time more power.
As standard the new Skoda Octavia RS is fitted with sports suspension, Start-Stop and Brake Energy Regeneration and electronic differential lock (XDS) built into the electronic stability control (ESC). Fog lights as well as the new bi-xenon headlights with integrated LED daytime running lights come in standard too. The innovative technologies offer better traction and less understeer during high-speed cornering while the new electro-mechanical progressive steering feature greater handling and agility. The dimension of the third generation Octavia RS has been changed too. The height is lowered by 12mm (13mm Combi), the length has increased with 88 mm (86 m combi) and width adds 45 mm while the wheelbase rises by 102mm.
The exterior look is dominated in front by the characteristic Skoda front grille sporting the RS badge, distinctive honeycomb air intakes and new RS-style front bumper while the rear gets a strong black diffuser element and overlying wide reflector spotlight. New light-alloys have 17, 18 and 19 inch upgraded wheel design. The interior look is in the same sport line as the exterior and black is the dominant color inside. The sport steering wheel is wrapped in leather, new instrument panel improves visual contact, stainless steel sill plates and pedals plus sport seats add an aggressive appearance. In addition the clients can order KESSY Keyless-Entry-Start-and-Exit-System, electric panoramic sunroof, Adaptive Cruise Assistant and the list can continue with ‘Simply Clever’ solutions.
