Both Geely and Detroit Electric have joined forces in an attempt to co-develop electric vehicles and power trains for the Chinese market, Geely is a well-known China-based global car manufacturer and Detroit Electric is a leading electric vehicle manufacturer. Together, the two have announced at the Shanghai Auto Show that they have started a partnership to develop pure electric vehicles and related electric drive systems for the Chinese market which is looking forward to it according to different studies. Their first pure electric model will go on sale under the Geely brand starting next year.

Three years ago started a feasibility study and a joint development programme and the two companies have selected the best selling Emgrand EC7 model in the Chinese market as the base vehicle on which to develop a class-leading pure electric vehicle. For the EC7-EV sales will begin probably in the first quarter of next year. The vehicle will be sold to business users and public-sector organizations. The two companies are forecasting sales of around 3.000 units in the first 12 months, increasing to 30.000 in the first three years.

The new EC7-EV will be offered both medium-range and long-range options. The model is capable of delivering class-leading acceleration which means from 0 to 100 km/h in less than 8.0 seconds and a top speed of 200 km/h. Detroit Electric twin-speed high-torque gearbox is engineered to provide exceptional levels of energy efficiency.
