Volkswagen Beetle Convertible

At the beginning of next month, we will have the opportunity to see a lot of new models again, as then is when the Los Angeles Auto Show will open its doors. One of the carmakers involved in the crazy event will be Volkswagen. Fortunately, the Germans have decided to reveal their new version of the Beetle, the convertible ahead of the Auto Show. As expected, the new VW Beetle Convertible looks a lot like its predecessor as it combines the retro style of the hatchback with a traditional soft top which in fact stays exposed behind the rear seats when these are folded down. Too bad there are no images available with the top in its place. The roof can be closed and opened in around 10 seconds if the car is running with less than 30 km/h, by only pressing a button. You should also know that no matter the trim, the top is automatic on all models.

For the safety of the passengers, the engineers have strengthened the A-pillars and have also developed an Automatic Rollover Support System that features two roll-over bars behind the back of the foldable rear bench seat. According to the German carmaker, the new VW Beetle Convertible will be available on the North American market sometime before the end of this year and it will come with three options in terms of engine. The base version will be a 2.5-liter gasoline capable of developing 170 horsepower and 177 lb. ft. of torque. To transfer this output to the wheels, the carmaker has offered a 6-speed automatic transmission. The next in line is a 2.0-liter diesel capable of generating 140 horsepower and 236 lb. ft. of torque. It needs 41 mpg of fuel and is mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox. As an option, the carmaker also offers a DSG unit.

The last engine variant comes with the fastest model in the range and it is a 2.0-liter turbocharged TSI gasoline unit capable of developing 200 horsepower and 207 lb. ft. of torque. This variant can be bought either with a 6-speed manual transmission or with a DSG automatic one. The Price will be made public a bit later.
