Volkswagen Beetle GSR Limited Edition

Germans try not to waist any time. The true proof is the number of cars presented at the 2013 edition of the Chicago Auto Show. We mentioned the Golf R-Line and now, time has come for us to meet the VW Beetle GSR Limited Edition. The sportiest version of the classis Volkswagen Beetle had its debut four decades ago. Its name was the GSR and it had as base a 1303S. The model was very easy to recognize thanks to its color scheme. Back then, the manufacturer has only built 3500 units which are now part of the lives of different collectors.

The carmaker wanted to pay homage and to do it, had decided it was time for a new model. To be more precise we are talking about the 2014 VW Beetle Limited Edition GSR. The model receives power from an uprated version of the well-known EA888 2.0-liter turbocharged inline f4-cylinder TSI engine capable of generating 210 horsepower. The engineers will offer it to the VW Jetta GLI and Beetle Turbo during the 2013 model year. This will improve the total output by 10 horsepower. In the end of the complex process, this model has helped the manufacturer re-interpret the 1970 GST for the modern era. The look was improved by black trim strips underneath the side windows and black rocker panels. Anyway, the stance of the new car is very different and it uses 19-inch Tornado aluminum alloy wheels covered in 235 / 40 r19 tires to transfer the output to the road. It also has black-painted brake calipers.

The engine is capable of generating 210 horsepower and 207 lb. ft. of torque, just like mentioned above which enables the car to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 6.6 seconds and to reach an electronically limited top speed of 130 mph. The new version of the GSR is being offered as standard with a 6-speed manual transmission to transfer the output to the wheels. As optional, the engineers offer a dual-clutch DSG 6-speed automatic transmission.
