For all GTI fans Volkswagen prepares a world debut at Worthersee. More exactly it is presenting its concept car, named “Design Vision GTI” especially created for racing. Starting from 8th to 11th of May almost 150.000 GTI lovers are expected to gather at Worthersee to admire among others the concept car conceived by Volkswagen engineers and designers particular for this event. Based on the seventh-generation GTI model the concept adds more aggressiveness in design. Also the Design Vision GTI dimensions have been modified comparing to the current GTI, being with 15mm shorter and with 71mm width increasing values. The height has been lowered from 1442mm to 1385mm.
Massively enlarged track widths and specially created 20 inch alloy wheels with 235/35 tires on front and 275/30 tires in the rear predicts a huge amount of power that needs to be harvested. Great performance output comes from the new V6 3.0-liter engine that delivers 503 HP (370 kW) and 560 Nm (413 lb-ft) of torque. The 3.0 liter TSI engine has a direct petrol injection and it is fitted with two turbochargers. Its force is distributed to the front and rear wheels through a dual clutch gearbox (DSG). Volkswagen displays a time of 3.9 seconds from stand to 62 mph (100 km/h) and a top speed of 186 mph (300 km/h).
The new impressive exterior look keeps the GTI features and according to Klaus Bischoff this is part of Volkswagen's secret of success. A design that visualises the brand's identity without a doubt is binding for all models that carry the VW logo. Thus each model is recognised as a true Volkswagen by its distinctive design. With these great achievements the Design Vision GTI is surely a pure race car.
