German carmaker Volkswagen has developed the second generation of the Santana. For sure you have heard of it as it is one of the most successful models in China developed by VW as since its official launch managed to sell almost 4 million units. The specialists have used a longer Polo PQ25 platform, the same one used for the Seat Toledo and the Skoda Rapid. The sedan has now a 2.630 mm wheelbase and it provides 480 liters of cargo capacity.

Now, 29 years later since the development of the first generation, Volkswagen is here with a fully redeveloped new Santana with new styling. Its wheelbase measure 2.603 mm offering mode knee room at the rear seat. The boot space has 480 liters. The engineers have also offered a lot of attention to safety and security elements. For example the new 2013 Volkswagen Santana is equipped with ABS, front, side and head airbags, air conditioning or automatic climate control, ESC electronic stabilization program and alloy wheels. The list of features continues with parking sensors and leather upholstery, but also electric sliding sunroof. For the Chinese customers, Volkswagen offers three versions of the Santana: Trendline, Comfortline and Highline.

Under the hood it has a naturally-aspirated 4-cylinder engines that are part of the EA 211 petrol engine series. the first one is a 1.4-liter unit capable of generating 90 PS and has a fuel consumption of 5.9 liters per 100 km. The other option is a 1.6-liter capable producing 110 PS which uses 6.0 liters per 100 km. In comparison with the previous generation, the CO2 emission level was improved by 28 %. Specialists will build the new model at the Shanghai VW Automotive in China. These are all the detail available on the new model revealed at the SEMA Show this week.
