There have been a lot of rumors about this, but now it is really happening. The 2014 version of the Audi A3 Sedan was now sent into production in Hungary at a plant that belongs to the company in Gyor. So far, the Germans have invested a total of more than EUR900 million in infrastructures, buildings and innovative production equipment. With the A3 Sedan, the carmaker is introducing a new concept in the premium compact class, one of the fastest-growing segments in the world. The A3 will be launched in those countries in the spring of 2014 and will be available from European dealerships as of this autumn. The dynamic four-door has all the strengths of the A3 models range like low weight because of lightweight construction, strong and highly efficient engines, but also several high-end systems for infotainment and driver assistance.
Until now, Audi Hungary has created 2.100 additional jobs as a result of the plant expansion. In addition, the company is preparing skilled personnel for their tasks at the German plant and at the international Volkswagen sites. The main focus points were the resource efficiency and protection of the environment. To get them, the carmaker is applying future-oriented technologies such as dry separation with air circulation in the paint shop.
This actually reduces the volume of air to be processed, resulting in a reduction in energy requirements of 50 % compared with conventional wet separations. In the assembly area, operation of the machinery has been ergonomically optimized for the employee with the application of height-adjustable conveyor systems. The total floor space of Audi Hungary has increased to around 4 million square meters. Since its launch, the company has invested a total of EUR5.7 billion for the site.
