This year in Detroit, at the North American International Auto Show, Audi will present two new models: the Audi RS 5 Cabriolet and the Audi R8. The first one is actually available in the US now and it combines track-tested engineering with the freedom of open air driving. It combines elegance and power in a very unique way.
Under the hood it hides a high-revving, naturally aspirated V8 engine with FSI with nearly identical performance numbers as the coupe. The 4.2-liter unit can produce 450 horsepower and 317 lb. ft. of torque. This output enables the car to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 4.9 seconds and to reach a limited top speed of 174 mph. despite these numbers the model has a class leading fuel economy and no gas guzzler tax. Both the exterior and the interior of the Audi RS5 Cabriolet keep the essence of the Coupe variant. You should also know that the split rear seatbacks can be folded over individually. The aluminum front fenders compensate for some of the added weight of the reinforcements. Now, the new LED light strips illuminate the headlights and taillights without any conventional incandescent lamps and the rear bumper was also redesigned. You will find on the trunk lid a subtle matte carbon spoiler lip for additional down-force. The sport seats are adjustable and have high side panels for optimal lateral support, integrated head restraints, a lumbar support and a pull-out thigh support. All are covered in a combination of leather and Alcantara or in the optional black or lunar silver Fine Nappa leather. The soft top opens and closes automatically in 15 seconds and 17 seconds respectively. The model will go on sale this spring, so quite soon actually, so stay close.
