Very soon, during the New York International Auto Show, German carmaker BMW will introduce a new model. We are actually talking about the new BMW 328d. The manufacturer will also feature two new additions to its award-winning 3 Series line-up, the BMW 3 Series Gran Turismo and the diesel-powered BMW 328d. The new plug-in hybrid concept, the Active Tourer, offers a quick look of further innovations in store for the premium compact segment. The model combines comfort and functionality with dynamic and style while showcasing several innovative solutions. As you can see in the gallery below, the model has an elongated wedge-shaped silhouette, athletic proportions and also very BMW-typical lines. Under the hood it hides a 3-cylinder gasoline engine paired to an electric motor which allows the car to reach a fuel consumption of 95 mpg.
The engineers have also offered to the new BMW Concept Active Tourer a Cool Shade composite glass roof which uses Suspended Particle Device technology allowing the driver to make the roof crystal clear or darken with the touch of a button. The Gran Turismo segment was redefined with the BMW 5 Series GT by offering first-class seating for four with space for luggage. Now the BMW 3 Series Gran Turismo has as base the iconic BMW 3 Series a model that obtained several awards. The BMW 3 Series GT has a longer wheelbase, more rear seat room and flexible luggage space with an optional panoramic moon-roof. The model will be available this summer on the US market and will be available with a TwinPower Turbo 4 cylinder or with an inline 6-cylinder engine.
The BMW 328d will receive a TwinPower Turbo 4 cylinder engine capable of generating 180 horsepower and 280 lb. ft. of torque which will enable the car to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 7.2 seconds.
