BMW i3

Germans from BMW started thinking about ways to influence the 2020 future of mobility and came with some very interesting insights. Back in 2007 the specialists have developed the BMW Megacity vehicle. In 2011, the i division was developed and ever since we have been offered different leaked images and official prototype unveilings of both this i3 and the i8 eco sport car. The last one was actually called the Concept Vision Efficient Dynamics and was presented as a diesel hybrid model. According to the carmaker, the BMW i3 seems to have awakened great interest in the new drivers, mostly.

The specialists have used steel and lightweight and strong CFRP and exhaustively lightened and stiffened aluminum. The new BMW i3 will be available for purchase starting with later this year, November to be more precise and this is only available for the European market. At the beginning of next year, we will have it in the US as well and other markets. The Germans have also offered a hybrid version with a 650cc 2-cylinder engine which acts like a range-doubling generator that will be the bigger seller. This version launches two months after the EV trim at a modest price premium of $2.000. The model uses 19-inch Bridgestone Ecopia tires that cover 155 / 70 R19 wheels. The e-motor is developed by Bosch and it is capable of generating 168 horsepower and 184 lb. ft. of torque. This output enables the car to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 7.0 seconds and to reach a top speed of 93 mph. The transmission only has one speed.
