Today, at the 2013 North American International Auto Show, held in Detroit, Cadillac introduces the 2014 ELR, a luxury coupe available with industry-leading Extended Range Electric Vehicle technology. This provides full driving range exceeding 300 miles by combining pure electric driving and an efficient range-extending generator. The production of the new ELR will begin in the US before the end of this year, but sales will only start at the beginning of next year in the US and expanding to global markets including Europe and China.
In terms of design, as you can see it is a lot similar to the 2009 Converj concept that actually inspired it. It has prominent body lines accentuated by 20-inch wheels used to transfer the output to the road. The aerodynamic elements play a very important role in the design as airflow is managed to help the vehicle slip through the air with minimal drag.
For the interior, the engineers have provided precisely crafter details. The leather-trimmed interior blends authentic chrome and wood accents. Further elements include an 8-inch configurable instrument and driver information displays, offering four configurations ranging from simple to technologically enhanced information. As standard on the Cadillac ELR we will find CUE with Navigation, an 8-inch full-color capacitive-touch screen in the center of the instrument panel. The driving experience is supported by the EREV propulsion system calibrated for uncompromising performance. The 3.6-liter V6 engine is capable of generating around 400 Nm of torque more than the engine in the SRX. The confidence is further enhanced by advanced suspension and damping systems, including Continuous Damping Control, which adjusts damping every two milliseconds. All this happens to maintain optimal vehicle ride control over different road surfaces and profiles. The model uses 20-inch wheels with specially engineered low-rolling resistance tires to obtain efficiency when cornering. The battery of the ELR comes with an 8-year/ 100.000 mile warranty.
