According to American carmaker Ford, the new 2014 Fusion will have an extra engine available for the North American market. To be more precise, we are talking about the new 1.5-liter turbocharged 3-cylinder EcoBoost petrol unit. This engine was actually revealed for the first time last week on the Mondeo, the sedan model developed for the Chinese market. Unfortunately there are no numbers available in terms of performance for the US market, but according to the carmaker, the 3-cylinder engine offered for the Chinese market is capable of generating 177 horsepower and 240 Nm of maximum torque from 1.500 to 4.500 rpm, which is really impressive if you ask us.
Now, the Ford Fusion has 4 options in terms of engine for the US market. The first one is a 2.5-liter inline-four capable of generating 175 horsepower, followed by a 1.6-liter turbo diesel inline-four with 178 horsepower as output. Next on the list we have the 2.0-liter turbo diesel four capable of generating 240 horsepower and last, but not least we have the 2.0-liter hybrid available in both Hybrid and Energy variants, capable of generating 141 horsepower. The new engine mentioned above is a 1.5-liter 3-cylinder EcoBoost that will work together with an automatic transmission and will have the Start / Stop function.
The 1.6-liter 4-cylinder EcoBoost will have the automatic transmission and the Start / Stop system, but will also come with a manual gearbox as well. Moving on with the changes, another one, which is not that important actually includes the availability of two new colors called Dark Side and Sunset and the introduction a new interior package. We will now have to wait for an official statement from Ford saying that all these new elements will by available on the 2014 Ford Fusion.
