Ford Transit

American carmaker Ford was very active these last few months and developed not only the Ford Transit Connect, but also the larger Transit van, meant to come in handy when it comes to heady-duty works. This model will replace the E-Series available now on the North American market. For the ones interested, should know that the model is available with different body styles. It is also offered with long and short wheelbase and with both standard and tall roof.

The carmaker is building it in Missouri where the F-150 pickup is also built. In terms of power plant, the engineers offer it with a 2.2-liter Duratorq TDCi diesel inline-four with a front-, rear- and all-wheel drive systems. For the North American customers will be a little easier as the specialists only provide it with a rear-wheel drive system. Together with the Transit Connect, the Americans plan to launch the larger model before the end of next year. The carmaker plans to redesign all models built for Europe before the end of 2013 and now, with the new Ford Transit, they are closer to the target.

The new car will replace the Ford E-Series range in the US by bringing new levels of capability and versatility to the van market. It features different wheelbases, roof heights and also a new chassis and this way can adapt easier to any other market. The body styles available are quite a lot and also clients can choose between front-wheel drive, rear-wheel drive and all-wheels drive. Under the hood it has a 2.2-liter Duratorq TDCi diesel engine. The American market also offers a 3.5-liter EcoBoost or even a strong diesel option. These are available only with rear-wheel drive which improves fuel economy by almost 25% in comparison with the E-Series. the model was tested to see if it reaches durability standards by covering million of miles. According to one Ford official, the Transit is the strongest, most capable and most efficient commercial van ever built. The Ford Transit is part of the Transit Custom commercial vehicle line-up for Europe.
