As it turns out, Hyundai specialists have been working hard these last few months. Why do we say this? Well, apparently, they have managed to complete the first tests with the new Hyundai i20 WRC. Its latest specifications have been tested this month during a positive shakedown on a private testing ground. The engineers wanted to check the systems of the car as they are only ahead of the FIA World Rally Championship and they want to be ready to participate. The shakedown was followed last week with the first testing session where the team started working by engineers back at the Hyundai Motorsport facility in Alzenau. The specialists have turned their attention and have concentrated on the 1.6-liter turbocharged engine as they want to continue the development programme for the power train.
The intensive testing programme is intended to ensure that Hyundai Motorsport arrives at Rally Monte Carlo at the beginning of next year prepared for the challenge. In an interview, the engineers involved in the process declared that it was a very emotional moment for them to see the latest specification of the i20 WRC in action for the very first time. The next period of time, the specialists will be busy as will have an intensive testing schedule for the rest of 2013 which might take them to different countries in Europe. They have to evaluate the i20 WRC in different conditions and on different terrains which reflect the variety of circumstances we will encounter in the World Rally Championship in 2014. They have refused to give us any names in terms of drivers, but it is all good. We will find out more soon, so do not go very far.
