South Korean carmaker Kia seems to have difficulties naming its new vehicles. Even if the specialists have no problems what so ever when it comes to design, engineering or manufacturing, the name of the final product gives them a hard time. For example their new global compact sedan will have three different names depending on the region, so hold on. The South Koreans will have the opportunity to purchase it starting this week and they will find it under the name of Kia K3. The North Americans and the Canadians will receive it as a 2014 model year.
The customers will find it under the name of Forte. On the Australian, and Brazilian markets, the carmaker will offer it as the new Kia Cerato. The whole system is a little crazy, if you ask us. Anyways, the name is not really important when it comes to the design of the new compact sedan model. The engineers have offered the latest design background of the company for both the interior and exterior of the car. It terms of technology, the specialists managed to offer new ones like parking assistance system, LED headlamps and the next generation telematics service UVO. This offer drivers the possibility to control their cars using an IT device or even a smartphone. The new Kia K3, measures 4.560 mm in length, 1.780 mm in width, 1,435 mm in height it also has a 2.700 mm wheelbase. This is actually 51 mm longer, which means the legroom for the passengers was improved. Under the hood, the Kia K3 hides a 1.6-liter 4-cylinder gasoline engine capable of developing 138 horsepower and 167 Nm of torque. The engine has a fuel economy of 32.9 mpg. Unfortunately, the carmaker did not mention the type of engine the Forte or the Cerato will have, but we do know the two will be available at the beginning of 2013.
The South Korean specialists will offer us the possibility to choose between a 4-door sedan and a 5-door hatchback followed by a 2-door coupe variant. Unfortunately, the European will not receive them as here the carmaker is already selling the Ceed and Pro_Ceed vehicles. The specialists will produce 410.000 units for 2013 and the number will increase for 2014 to over 500.000. These are all the information available on the new Kia K3.
