This week at the 2013 edition of the New York International Auto Show, a lot of carmakers have presented their latest achievements after a long period of leaks. For example, let us mention the all-new, second generation of the Range Rover Sport which is a more compact version of the Mk4 when it comes to performance and styling characteristics. According to the manufacturer, the new model will be available for purchase starting this summer. The engineers were capable of saving up to 420 kg which really impressive, by switching from a steel body-on-frame construction to an aluminum uni-body design. Despite the fact that it is longer in overall length, the new Sport has shorter overhangs at the front and rear in comparison to the previous model.
The new Sport version id 149 mm shorter and 55 mm lower, while model-for-model, it weighs 45 kg less. This is not all. The new Range Rover Sport contains 75 % unique parts. The engineers have offered a 5th generation air suspension that provides up to 115 mm of regular movement. New chassis technologies include the Adaptive Dynamics system featuring continuously variable dampers. The model also receives an all-new electric power steering and offers a choice of two full-time 4WD systems. In terms of power train, options are different from region to region. The US will get two gasoline units, a 3.0-liter supercharged V6 capable of producing 335 horsepower and a 5.0-liter supercharged V8 capable of generating 503 horsepower. For the European market, the new 2014 Land Rover Range Rover Sport will be launched with a 5.0-liter supercharged V8 petrol with 503 horsepower output and with a 3.0-liter SDV6 diesel with 288 horsepower output.
