Today we had the opportunity to see the new Lexus IS sport sedan for the first time as the Japanese carmaker revealed it during the Detroit Auto Show. Apparently, it will be offered with an initial choice of two gasoline engines. One of them is a 3.5-liter V6 unit and the second one is a 4-cylinder hybrid. The specialists have tried to improve the cabin space for the rear passengers and to increase the luggage compartment. This way the model became sportier with improved handling. Both the exterior and the interior designs are characterized by their sharper lines. The main elements are the spindle grille and the odd-looking headlamp clusters with LED accents on the bottom. The cabin obtained more refined materials, trims and finishes and also got new technological elements. The Lexus IS has now a revised double wishbone front suspension system offering a 20 % increase in rigidity. It also has a new multi-link suspension from the GS. The model has a new Drive Mode Select System that can be set on three driving model: Eco, Normal and Sport.
In the US will be launched with a 2.5-liter V6 engine capable of generating 204 horsepower for the IS 250 and with a 3.5-liter V6 for the IS 350. Both will send the output to the wheels through an 8-speed automatic transmission. The available configurations are rear- and all-wheel drive. At the Auto Show, the Japanese manufacturer also announced a 2.5-liter Atkinson-cycle 4-cylinder engine mated to an electric motor for the IS 300h. Unfortunately, the US market will not have a hybrid version. This will be a first, but the new IS will also receive an F Sport Trim that will come with 18-inch alloy wheels, it will have a special grille and front bumper. The price for the 2014 Lexus IS will be revealed a bit later.
