Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Black Series

Since 2006, when Mercedes-Benz introduced the Black Series we had the opportunity to see five variants. The carmaker introduced the SLK55 AMG Black Series for the first time in Europe. The next model was the 2208 CLK63 AMG Black Series, the 2009 SL65 AMG Black Series and the last one id the 2013 C63 AMG Black Series. The last model is the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Black Series. The model has lost weight, but received more power and it now has some refined upgrades and aero bits from front to rear. According to the Chairman of Mercedes-AMG, the new model is the perfect example that managed to transfer technology and engineering from motorsport to the road. The model got carbon-fiber-reinforced polymer torque tube from the road car and it also has air conditioning.

Under the hood, the new Mercedes SLS AMG Black Series hides a 6.2-liter naturally aspirated V8 engine capable of generating 622 horsepower and 468 lb. ft. of torque. The engineers have also installed a gas-filled strut between the engine and the body, and another gas-filled strut that stabilizes the transmission. The coil-over suspension received new wishbone mounts, revised camber settings and bushings and increased spring rates and also Adaptive Performance which can be set to Sport and Sport+. To transfer the output to the road, the engineers have used 20-inch Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 rubber. Now, a lithium-ion battery replaces the conventional unit and in the end the model weighs 3.417 pounds. This means it is a couple hundred pounds more in comparison to the 2014 Porsche GT3. The model is capable of accelerating from 0 to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds and to reach a top speed of 196 mph. It uses 13 mpg in the city and 19 mpg on the highway. The price was established at $250.000.
