Coming straight from Germany, the 2014 Opel Astra takes the German tradition a step farther. The brand remains one of the most technologically advanced automobile manufacturers in Europe. It has a quite long and rich history and, as the German auto field is by far the most competitive in the world, Opel has to keep pace with changes. And the recently revealed Opel Astra comes to refresh the Opel image in Europe.
If we were to talk about the looks of the new 2014 Opel Astra we would have nothing to say and this is because its appearance is exactly the same as the one of its predecessor. Nothing has changed. However, when it comes to engine configuration, everything changes. The vehicle gets a new 1.6-liter CDTI engine that outputs 136 HP (100 kW) and 320 Nm (236 lb-ft) of torque. It allows the hatchback to sprint from 0-100 km/h in 10.3 seconds, and to reach a maximum speed of 200 km/h (124 mph) and average 3.9 L/100km (60.3 mpg US / 72.4 mpg UK) with CO2 emissions of 104 g/km.
Besides the new engine, Opel has added a new IntelliLink infotainment system which includes a seven-inch touchscreen display. The entry-level system has a CD player and Bluetooth/USB/AUX connectivity, while the range-topping Navi 950 variant possesses European-wide GPS navigation. The Opel Astra can be equipped with a new Active package that contains LED daytime running lights, Piano Black trim, cloth / leather seats, according to the client’s wishes. Although the car has nothing impressive on the outside, it may be pretty attractive on the inside.
