Today at the Los Angeles International Auto Show, German carmaker Porsche managed to reveal the new 2014 Cayman, a model that has as base the new Boxster. Now it features a lightweight body design which makes it lighter than the car it replaces. It also has a 40% stiffer body and more powerful and efficient flat-six engines that offer better performance. The fuel economy also increases by 15%. In terms of looks you should know that it is better looking than the outgoing Cayman thanks to a sleeker roofline and more heavily angled tailgate.
For the interior, the carmaker used a lot of elements borrowed from the 981 Boxster and features higher quality materials, improved storage, better equipment and also new gadgets. The luggage compartment has been increased by 15 liters. Under the hood the new Porsche Cayman hides a 2.7-liter flat six capable of generating 271 horsepower. This output enables the car to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.7 seconds when equipped with the standard 6-speed manual, in 5.6 seconds when equipped with the PDK dual clutch and in 5.4 seconds when it uses the Sport Chrono package.
If we want to talk about the sportier version of the Cayman, the Cayman S, we probably should mention the fact that it receives power from a 3.4-liter flat-six capable of generating 321 horsepower. This incredible output enables the car to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.0 seconds when equipped with the manual transmission and in 4.9 seconds when it uses a PDK dual clutch. If the engineers have offered the sport Chrono package to transfer the output to the wheels, the car can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.7 seconds.
The North American customers will receive the model in showrooms starting the spring of next year. The price was established at $52.600 for the standard model and at $63.800 for the Cayman S. If we leave the continent and move to Great Britain, you should know that the starting price for the Cayman was established at GBP 39.694 in the UK and at EUR68.460 in Ireland. The Porsche Cayman S costs GBP 48.783 in the UK and the starting price for the S variant was established at EUR 84.136 for Ireland.
