Volkswagen Golf R UK Specs

Volkswagen, headquartered in Wolfsburg, Germany, is one of the world’s leading automobile manufacturers and the largest car manufacturer in Europe. In 2012, VW increased the number of vehicles delivered to customers to 9.276 million (while in 2011 it was 8.265 million), this corresponding to a 12.8 percent share of the world passenger car market, despite the economical crisis of the moment. The company has developed centers and services in the entire world, including the United Kingdom. And it is exactly the place where the company chose to introduce the 2014 Volkswagen Golf R.

The 2014 Volkswagen Golf R is powered by a new version of the 2.0-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged EA888 TSI petrol engine, which develops 300 PS from 5,500 to 6,200 rpm and 380 Nm (280 lbs. ft) from 1,800 to 5,500 rpm. With this engine, the new 2014 Golf R will be able to sprint the 0- 62 mph (100 km/h) in 5.3 seconds and to go up to a maximum speed of 155 mph (250 km/h). If a DSG transmission is added to support the engine, the new Golf R accelerates from zero to 62 mph in just 4.9 seconds. Although “R” means more power, the vehicle can realize a fuel economy of 39.8 mpg (40.9 mpg DSG), and a CO2 emissions level of 165 g/km (159 g/km DSG).

The 2014 Volkswagen Golf R received fifth-generation Haldex 4MOTION four-wheel drive system, which allows the hatchback to transfer 100 per cent of its power to the rear axle in some cases. The Adaptive Chassis Control system is optional. A “race mode” setting is available thanks to a lowered suspension system which brings the Golf R closer to the ground by 20 mm. Among the goodies that the car got we mention a progressive steering, a new front bumper, a modified front grille, bi-xenon headlights, a new set of 18-inch alloys and bigger brakes (340 mm front, 310 mm rear). The vehicle will be delivered starting March, 2014 and the starting price for the U.K. market will be £29,900 GBP.
