Detroit Electic has came up with a new special model, the SP:01 electric sports car. According to the specialists the pre-production prototypes are currently undergoing extensive testing at their production facility in Leamington Spa, UK. The production will start soon, but we do not have any specific details as to when. The new SP:01 will be the fastest pure-electric production two-seater sports car when it goes on sale in Asia, Europe and North America, but this will only happen next year. The engineers will fit an electric motor capable of generating 210 kW, equivalent to 285 horsepower. This will only include carbon fiber body panels and manual transmission as standard. Of course, there are also as optional a single speed and twin speed automatic gearboxes. The amount of power produced will enable the car to accelerate from 0 to 60 km/h in 3.7 seconds an to reach a top speed of 155 mph.
We first had the opportunity to see the model at the 2013 edition of the Shanghai Motor Show and we can clearly see that this has been updated. A large rear wing and under-body diffuser have been incorporated to reduce lift and improve handling at higher speeds. At launch, the model will come with a carbon fiber rear spoiler, diffuser and battery cover and it interms of metallic paint options these will include Performance Black, Performance Blue, Performance Green, Performance Orange and Performance Silver. There are different specially made colors as well.
On the inside it has an 8.4 inch touchscreen table which in fact, replaces all analogue dials and switches on the fascia. The SP:01 also comes with leather or Alcantara sports seats, powe electric windows, power central locking, ambient cabin lighting and a lot more. We will have more details on the model soon.
