The GLK name is confirmed by Mercedes

The official name that Mercedes announced for their new crossover auto will be the GLK, not the MLK as rumors said. The European debut of the German-built GLK will be in late 2008, with a U.S. release in early 2009. Mercedes plans on marketing it as a compact SUV and has given the GLK a boxier look. The model is more CUV than SUV.

The GLK will have similar looks with the GL but will only have two rows of seating.
Slotted below the M-Class, the GLK will be competing with the Acura RDX and BMW X3 as well as up-coming cars from Infiniti and Audi. The new model will also offer MB's COMMAND-Plus to control many of the auto's functions. The price has yet to be revealed but should start under $40,000. The GLK will make its debut in January at the Detroit Auto Show.
