Avid auto collector and racing enthusiast Steve McQueen’s 1963 Ferrari Berlinetta Lusso has sold in auction for $US2.31 million, over estimating sales price by more than one million dollars. An anonymous buyer bought the vehicle by phone at the Monterey Jet Center auction; there was over 800 people.

Mike Regalia, the seller, bought the auto almost a decade ago; since then has restored it to pristine condition. Regalia, when asked how much he paid for it, told AP reporters “a new Lexus would cost more than what I paid.”

McQueen got the Ferrari as a present from Neile Adams, his first wife. The beige leather interior was personally picked by McQueen and it was optioned with Lusso brown metallic paint.
